MOUNT
BATUKARU

Mount Batukaru, the second-highest mountain in Bali at 2,276 meters, is the island’s spiritual and ecological heart, home of the only remaining rainforest in Bali. Revered in Balinese spiritual culture, it is dedicated to the god Mahadeva, symbolizing balance between creation and destruction.

PURA LUHUR BATUKARU TEMPLE

The sacred Pura Luhur Batukaru temple at its base draws pilgrims who seek blessings for harmony with nature. The temple is dedicated to the god Mahadeva in his manifestation as Ratu Hyang Tumuwuh, the creative force which grows the plant world through the sacred cycle of water. A profound way to acknowledge and honor the mountain’s lush forests that provide vital ecosystems, sustaining unique wildlife and crucial water sources for agriculture, including Bali's famous rice terraces.

Local beliefs honor the spirits of the mountain, who are seen as protectors of the land, and the energy here is considered to bring peace and purification.
